Counselling Services
Life can become incredibly challenging at times, and it can be difficult to know where you take your concerns when you are struggling. In such circumstances it is important that you speak to someone who can help you. You may turn to your family, friends, tutors, the school Chaplain, community leaders, school Counsellor, or your GP.
How can the School Counsellor help me?
At the school, we have a team of qualified, professional, and experienced Counsellors who adhere to the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) Ethical Framework for Counselling.
If you choose to speak to one of the school Counsellors, then you can expect to speak with someone in a confidential setting who will listen, without judgement, to your story. Your Counsellor will accept your thoughts and feelings on the matter as a record of your experience. They will work with you to make connections so that you better understand what you are going through. It may be that it normalises your experience, clarifies your thoughts, or discovers strategies to help you cope better or helps you put things in context by exploring objective viewpoints.
It is a valuable resource that can aid your resilience. Please look at a range of feedback that previous students have said about our service.
What sort of issues can I see a Counsellor for?
You can see a School Counsellor about any matter that is impacting you and preventing you from being able to fully focus on your academic studies or getting in the way of you realising your potential. It can be anything at all of concern to you. Below are examples of concerns that students have brought to counselling in the past before:
Anxiety, depression, anger, changes in the family, managing workload, exams, friendship and relationship difficulties, identity, self-development, bereavement, sexuality and much more besides.

How long do I see a Counsellor for?
That’s up to you. It depends on what you need. It could be a one-off session, a terms’ work or longer if you need. When you are ready to end the work, you should tell your Counsellor, but it will be something that you think together about in your first session.
